The beautiful beaches and shallow warm waters of Lake Winnipeg are vulnerable to being lost. United, we can conserve a rare block of shoreline habitat, a 61-hectare property we are calling Camp Morton North.
Thanks to donors like you, Douglas Marsh 4, a piece of the largest wetland system in the Assiniboine Delta aquifer, has been secured.
The Elk Glen property, located just south of Riding Mountain National Park, spans 646 hectares and is defined by hilly topography and a diverse mixture of habitat types which include forest, wetlands and prairie.
The 130-hectare Kurian property is located in the northern portion of the Whitemouth River Natural Area, and is characteristic of black spruce bog and tamarack larch fen habitats that are found in the lowlands of the Canadian Shield.
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is working with local Anishinaabe representatives and the Beddome family to jointly steward and monitor 305 hectares on the banks of the Assiniboine River, south of Shilo. The announcement is being made as a celebration and testament of the whole-of-society approach necessary to address the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change.
These feature projects are just a few of many conservation areas that the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) and our partners have secured in Manitoba. Other significant projects include For Ellice, Tall Grass Prairie Preserve, Lake Ranch, Jackson Pipestone Prairie, and Alvar in the Interlakes. Please contact us if you would like to know more about any of NCC’s projects in Manitoba.
