Natural Areas Map Lg Custom

Founded in Ontario, the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) proudly launched our first project in 1962: to protect the Cavan Swamp and Bog, one hour east of the Greater Toronto Area.

Since its establishment, we have brought people together to conserve and restore more than 15 million hectares, including 256,000 hectares protected to date across Ontario, an area over three times the size of London, Ontario.

From the boreal forest in northern Ontario  to Pelee Island in Lake Erie, NCC works to protect the province’s most significant natural landscapes.

Partnerships

Collaboration is at the heart of who we are. We are only able to create lasting change for the planet and its people by partnering with Indigenous Nations and communities, governments, businesses, individuals and other organizations around shared interests.

Private land conservation

We focus our conservation efforts in priority areas that are identified through science-based planning initiatives. These are areas where species and ecosystems face the greatest threats and areas across the province that will create more connectivity between existing protected lands.

In addition to our work  in southern Ontario, we are pursuing large-scale land protections in northern Ontario, conserving critical habitats for wide-ranging mammals like wolves and moose, and migratory birds, increasing the northern region’s resiliency against climate change  To learn more, visit our Boreal Wildlands page or other featured projects.

Caring for our lands: stewardship and restoration:
Our work doesn’t end once a property is protected. Detailed management plans guide how we monitor the land’s health and resiliency. Learn more about our stewardship and restoration initiatives.
